For those of you who have not read/watched/suffered Lord of the Rings or the related books, Galadriel is one of the most shrewd and powerful elves to ever walk Middle-earth. It was generally believed that Sauron would have to show up, in person, if he wanted to conquer/destroy her kingdom and the only reason she'd lose is because his ring trumps hers. In Thedas she will not be anywhere near this powerful and will be deeply reluctant to use the type of magic she's accustomed to (which is, 9 times out of 10, considerably more subtle than Theodosian magics), but you know what they say? Old habits die hard? Well, some of her habits are literally older than the sun, and this is the biggest one:

Mind/Heart/Soul Reading - Ósanwe
(In Quenya this ability is literally called "thought opening".)

Basically, Galadriel is going to try, reflexively, to read your characters unshielded, unfettered desires and proclivities. This ability is going to be a little haywire and unpredictable in Thedas, so there's a few options for how effective you would like it to be, if at all:

Can Galadriel read their active thoughts? - The things they are thinking right now, this instant, as she stares creepily at them?
Can Galadriel read their desires? What they long for most? - The vagueness or specificity of these desires is up to you. Does she know that they miss home? That they crave power? That they long for real, Avvar mead?
Can Galadriel read their fears and sorrows? - Is there any maliciousness or sadistic nature in their soul? Have they been traumatized? Are they really, really afraid of spiders? (Her too. It's a Caliquendi thing.)
Can Galadriel sense the nature of their heart? - What is your character's soul like? Are they kind and good, deep down inside? Are they honestly repentant of bad deeds? Are they not repentant at all? Do they have deep and abiding faith?
Can Galadriel see their memories? - If so, what can she see?

Galadriel has the ability to sense "darkness" in people. This is really fairly literal.

Has your character been corrupted either physically or spiritually? - The Blight, Possession, etc?
Are they still corrupted? - If so, being near or touching Galadriel may have adverse effects on them. Her power is considerably weakened in Thedas but she hates corruption so much that even stuff she's owned briefly can drive out the darkness. Being around her may be uncomfortable, direct physical contact may feel as though it burns.

Is your character a Spirit/a creature without its own body/incarnated in a body that is not theirs?

If your character is a spirit/golem/etc, and it is not otherwise obvious, can she sense it? - Conversely, is their soul so whole and mundane that you would like Galadriel to be surprised to learn they are a golem, as though they weren't made of rocks, plain as day?
Do you want their powers and Galadriel's abilities to have a conflict somewhere? - In Middle-earth there was no one who could read Galadriel's mind, but she couldn't read the minds of creatures without incarnations. How would you like this to work for your character, in Thedas?

You can answer yes or no to these, as you like, or include any caveats you like. If your character has similar abilities or magical abilities that could affect Galadriel, I would be happy to fill out any permissions post you have, just let me know about it.

OOC:

Backtagging: Certainly! I try my best but sometimes I'll open a tag and lose it amid my tabs; if a couple of days have passed with no comment, this has probably happened. I apologize. If you want to tag into something old, please, feel free! I'm never sad to get new tags.
Threadhopping: Have at. If the situation arises and the other person doesn't mind, I'm all for it.
Offensive subjects: I am fine with basically anything? Honestly, I have a propensity to write gore and violence with more description than other people are comfortable with, so if that bothers you let me know? Otherwise there is basically nothing that will really throw me. (I apologize in advance for any cringeworthy, bad-fanfic style descriptions detailing how pretty Galadriel is. She's just canonically really friggin pretty.)

IC:

Hugging this character: If your character is brave or innocent enough to walk up to Galadriel the eerie ancient elf and embrace her, she certainly won't stop them. She'll probably be very nice about it.
Kissing this character: If your character can reach that high. She will be more firm about this, but not unkind in her rebuff.
Flirting with this character: Galadriel will find this adorable, just as she finds all people who get flustered by her adorable. She's been married since the days of dawn, literally, so she doesn't take anything like this seriously and hasn't for thousands of years.
Fighting with this character: Galadriel doesn't get violent often. If your character isn't pulling some serious shit, she probably won't engage at all.
Injuring this character: I'm okay with it but we should probably plan around it. Unless it's a straight up ridiculous accident, Galadriel will be Unhappy.
Killing this character: Please, no.
Using telepathy/mind reading abilities on this character: Her mind doesn't work quite like the people of Thedas, but your character is welcome to. They may end up with Galadriel talking to them in their head, though.
Warnings: If your character rolls the dice and wants to sense stuff about Galadriel, they're welcome to it, but she's been alive a long time and a lot of the stuff she has on her/that is relevant to her as a person is pretty dark and can get fairly horrible/gorey. Just, heads up.

Can Galadriel read their active thoughts? Sure, though it's almost unnecessary since Korrin says what's on her mind most of the time.

Can Galadriel read their desires? What they long for most? Essentially; she misses the Valo-Kas and wants them around again or at least maybe having that bond with another company. She also cares deeply about seeing the status of fellow mages and Tal-Vashoth/Vashoth improve.

Can Galadriel read their fears and sorrows? Yep. At the moment, that mostly includes grief/survivor's guilt for fellow company members lost in the Conclave. Fears are typical mage stuff: becoming an abomination, becoming Tranquil, being bound like a saarebas.

Can Galadriel sense the nature of their heart? Sure. Korrin's essentially good-hearted, just impatient and blunt and very headstrong. Anything in her personality section is fair game.

Can Galadriel see their memories? Anything in Korrin's written history is fair game.

Has your character been corrupted either physically or spiritually? Nope.

 Are they still corrupted? Nope.

Do you want their powers and Galadriel's abilities to have a conflict somewhere? I don't see why they would, so passing on this.

Anything else? I can't think of anything, but will edit if this changes!

Can Galadriel read their active thoughts? YEAH WHY NOT LET'S DO IT

Can Galadriel read their desires? What they long for most? Yes. In Leliana, that would be peace. Freedom for mages, for elves, for all peoples to live a happy life, freedom from cruelty, etc. There's other things like how much she adores history and tales, how much of a romantic she is, but those are all backburner to the change and freedom that she thinks are so important.

Can Galadriel read their fears and sorrows? yes. Her fears are failing to protect Thedas and all its people. Her sorrows are that she believes she has failed the Maker and Andraste, for every life she has taken, for all the suffering that goes on - I think Leliana is a deeply empathetic and compassionate person, and she's in danger of losing herself partly because she feel so keenly and is so angry about so many things people have suffered - she could go mad with it, honestly. She's fighting and working, but she has a lot of sorrows and guilt and fear that she's labouring under.

Can Galadriel sense the nature of their heart? yes; I think... Leliana has a good heart, but she struggles with how to do what must be done, how to fight for freedom. Right now she is very much hardened and struggling 5eva. She has a faithful heart, loving and compassionate and merciful, but she is... she is in danger of being twisted beyond recognition.

Can Galadriel see their memories? that would be so sad but yes lets do it, I trust you to just dive in there but if you'd like to clarify anything, hit me

Has your character been corrupted either physically or spiritually? nope! unless we talk about her dilemmas of faith and bard work but no blight or possession

 Are they still corrupted? nah

Can Galadriel read their active thoughts? yaaas

Can Galadriel read their desires? What they long for most? Ruby is lonely. She longs for kinship and community, and I think her desires run along the lines of wanting her friends and to protect them, and desiring family.

Can Galadriel read their fears and sorrows? YES fears include not keeping emma safe not being a good person being alone forever etc

Can Galadriel sense the nature of their heart? yessss sense the wild creature inside her, sense the Ruby and Red mojo, sense everything it's probably a headache! (But Ruby has a good heart. Uncertain, sometimes, but good. And ferocious.)

Can Galadriel see their memories? yessss i mean it's not like ouat has given us much but why not

Has your character been corrupted either physically or spiritually? There were those times before she mastered/embraced the Wolf where it took over and she lost control, which could be compared to possession. There's also the whole Dark Curse which kind of corrupted her identity and forced her to be someone else for twenty-eight years, if we want to get a bit interpretive. I am open to your thought on this!

Are they still corrupted? a good question :D..... depends on what we interpret as corruption i guess

If your character is a spirit/golem/etc, and it is not otherwise obvious, can she sense it? would this apply for the Wolf? bc if so then yasssss

Would you prefer her not to sense it? nope

Do you want their powers and Galadriel's abilities to have a conflict somewhere? I'm not sure whether they would - perhaps Galadriel could not be able to read the Wolf, where she can read Ruby? Open to whatever tbh

  • Can Galadriel read their active thoughts? Yyyy

  • Can Galadriel read their desires? What they long for most? Heck yes. Adalia's true heart's desire is... basically just a sense of belonging. Family, community, somewhere she is wanted where she wants to be. Also, mastery of herself — knowledge of who she is, how and why she got to where she is now, and what kind of person all of that makes her.

  • Can Galadriel read their fears and sorrows? YE. Adalia's fears are basically along the lines of "am I a bad person? Have I made the wrong choices in life? Am I even supposed to be here at all?" She is afraid of herself, of temptation, of being corrupted, and her sorrow is that she's pretty sure she already has been. Also that like no one likes her, that's both a fear and a sorrow.

  • Can Galadriel sense the nature of their heart? YEEEE. Adalia is a fundamentally good person, but she's HELLA PROUD, and even though she doesn't realize it she thinks she is the only solution to any given problem. She's also extremely curious and a seeker of knowledge before almost anything else.

  • Can Galadriel see their memories? yes! any relevant memories will be detailed as they come up.

  • Has your character been corrupted either physically or spiritually? Yyyyyes unfortunately. She sold her future to save the lives of two of her party members, and then her soul to get the paladin back in touch with his God. Depending how literal the deity she sold her soul to is, and if that deal was broken when she was brought to Thedas, she is now quite literally soulless.

  • Are they still corrupted? Depends on how you look at the whole situation? And also if her soul is gone. But the nature of FR is that since her deity couldn't come through the rift with her, their connection is gone, so if that is the only thing that counts, no she's not.

Anything else? Adalia is not a spirit so I struck that part from this comment!

Can Galadriel read their active thoughts? Yes.

Can Galadriel read their desires? What they long for most? Yyyyymaybe. Gwenaëlle manages to want seven contradictory things at once, all the time, so like. Yes, but it's never straightforward.

Can Galadriel read their fears and sorrows? Yes.

Can Galadriel sense the nature of their heart? Gwenaëlle is close to being essentially amoral; she's neither innately good or bad, she's generally motivated by pleasing the people she loves. (Which is a different issue, in that this is also often in conflict.) Everyone is very lucky she married Thranduil and not Lex Luthor.

Can Galadriel see their memories? Yes.

Has your character been corrupted either physically or spiritually? No.

Can Galadriel read their active thoughts? sure

Can Galadriel read their desires? What they long for most? sure, but it'll be weirdly empty. he's got: the vestigial instinct towards survival, a sliver of something that looks a little like person-specific loyalty, a slight preference for routine. and that's about it, and they're all dimmed down far beyond what she'd normally find. like setting a transparency to 5%

Can Galadriel read their fears and sorrows? yep, but there's even less of this than desire. [ tumbleweed blows through emotional desert ]

Can Galadriel sense the nature of their heart? sure. it's strangely divided, and likely difficult to interpret. as though looking in at something through thick, cool glass — tinted a shade too dark to see clearly, unless you knew what was there before.

Can Galadriel see their memories? sure, just hmu in a given thread for what she'd find

Can Galadriel read their desires? What they long for most? melys wants security, but also independence. she wants belonging, but also to be an outsider. she wants people to stick around, but not to be held to the consequences of how her actions. etc. basically a big ol' ball of unresolved internal conflict with attachment issues. also: she'd like a nicer hat. maybe with a feather.

Can Galadriel read their fears and sorrows? sure. she's wary of magic, and scared of being alone. she's frightened that she might have done the dreadful things in her life to herself. also preeeeetty messed up still about the fifth blight and darkspawn.

Can Galadriel sense the nature of their heart? melys has a few solidly-held principles that she keeps while neglecting the rest. she prefers to avoid thinking about the bad she's done, and will make some excuses so she doesn't have to. she's a dirtbag, but a malleable one. the right people can talk her into doing the right thing — or the wrong one.

Can Galadriel read their active thoughts? Sure!

Can Galadriel read their desires? What they long for most? Yes, most of the time it’s just this very deep desire for validation, to feel like she’s wanted, worthy, and loved. She wants to be feel like she is, without question, good enough for the people she cares about. Basically: She wants a hug. There is also a lot of longing for her people, and for them to be given a better life.

Can Galadriel read their fears and sorrows? If she really wants, but. It might not be a blast. Beleth’s got pretty bad anxiety, and more often than not has that voice in the back of her head telling her that she’s not good enough, that everybody secretly hates her, etc. With Sina dying and everything else that’s been going on she’s also been dealing with some low key depression. So her fears and sorrows about rejection and everything being terrible are pretty loud & obnoxious. There’s a lot of other things she fears, from her worries over the Dalish fading away, to fears that she won’t contribute to the continuation of the Dalish—or that she will. Don’t talk to her about children.

Can Galadriel sense the nature of their heart? Sure, Beleth’s true nature is a little shiftier, partly because she’s so eager to change for other people. Beleth is, at her core, a good person, but she’s got plenty of morally gray areas there. She tries her best, but she’s not afraid to do shitty things if it’s necessary for the greater picture.

Can Galadriel see their memories? Go for it, and let me know if there’s anything specific.

Anything else? Beleth absolutely adores Galadriel and when she’s around her can generally be assumed to have thoughts about how amazing and pretty and etc etc she is.

Can Galadriel read their desires? What they long for most? wren always most wants/needs a Cause. hers mostly boils down to 'protecting people'. this is exactly as paternalistic as it sounds. in a small, persistent way tho, she also wants to give up and say it's out of her hands and maybe take a nap forever in a lowkey death wish kinda way. but that's quitter talk!!

Can Galadriel read their fears and sorrows? loss of control frightens her deeply: she doesn't believe that she can trust others to do the 'right' thing (by her conception of it) & she's very scared of losing herself. she worries that everything she's done has been for nothing. also: marionettes.

Can Galadriel sense the nature of their heart? wren cares a lot, but she's an authoritarian asshole who does nasty stuff for a Greater Good. she favours order and the establishment (even as she distrusts it), and believes in looking out for the little guy (whether they like it or not). she's not a zealot, likes facts, and works to restrain herself emotionally. that said there's the sense of a lot of controlled anger, and everything she does is sparked by personal attachment in the very beginning. she believes strongly in the individual capacity to make a difference, and is not religious.

Can Galadriel see their memories? sure, just hmu in a given thread for what she'd find

Can Galadriel read their active thoughts? Yes! Myr has very good filters 95% of the time, so while he is generally truthful he's also not saying a lot of what crosses through his brain. (a lot of it nerd thoughts bc he's a nerd)

Can Galadriel read their desires? What they long for most? Yes! He wants his home in Hasmal Circle back. He also doesn't want to be penned up or treated like he's weak or incapable ever again. Yes, these are in conflict. Yes, he's trying very hard not to think about that. also he's pining pretty bad for a certain extra large jumbo templar and he'd really like it if someone would just tell him it's fine to be a knight-enchanter because he hasn't given up on that part of his identity even if his mentor gave up on him

Can Galadriel read their fears and sorrows? Yes and oh boy. Even leaving aside the latest sorrows he's picked up (unrolls list), Myr's carrying a lot of trauma from his self-inflicted blinding and the collapse of his Circle. He does his damnedest to put on a brave face about it but has lately been made very aware that's not enough; his nerve has failed him in battle twice due to nearby entropy magic, and that cuts deeply into his self-identity as someone who belongs out there on the front lines.

Can Galadriel sense the nature of their heart? Yes! Myr is a good guy at heart, as much as he struggles with what exactly being good requires of him. His faith in the Maker and Andraste is deep and sincere, albeit clouded sometimes with doubt about whether either actually hears him. (Or whether he deserves to be heard.)

Can Galadriel read their desires? What they long for most? Yes. Notas desires ultimately a sense of self and belonging outside of what she was molded by both the Qunari and her former late Tevinter master, but is also extremely frustrated because she isn't sure how to even do that.

Can Galadriel read their fears and sorrows? Absolutely. One of Notas' biggest fears is that she wasted her time trying to escape the Qun since she ended up as a slave to Magister Tiberius anyway, that maybe she was better off just staying with the Qun.

Can Galadriel sense the nature of their heart? Yes. Despite Notas' anger and frustrations as well as her finding enjoyment in fighting, she isn't unnecessarily cruel or wicked.

Can Galadriel read their fears and sorrows? Yes. He's afraid of losing his freedom, and is afraid of drowning/water to some extent. He's also sorrowful about the people he's lost, especially recently with Nerva, and is quietly miserable.

Can Galadriel read their active thoughts? Sure

Can Galadriel read their desires? What they long for most? Sure, Kaisa's desires are pretty simple--more than anything, she wants to live a life that is noble and good, and leave this world significantly better for her being in it. She wants a glorious life, full of heroic deeds--she's not worried about the fame therein, though. What Kaisa longs for most is to feel like she was worth being born, and that there is a reason that she's here.

Can Galadriel read their fears and sorrows? Yes! Though Galadriel will probably be able to tell that Kaisa tries to keep these things locked up tight. Her greatest fear is that everything she's doing with the Wardens isn't helping, that she's looking at the last days of the Wardens, and that she's just made things worse. That the world will descend into Blight, because she couldn't do a good enough job. Also worth noting, she has an intense fear of the darkspawn managing to capture her (thanks broodmothers).

Can Galadriel sense the nature of their heart? Sure. Kaisa's nature is--loud. It's loud and joyous and it can feel chaotic, but there's also a very rigid desire to adhere to the law and keep order. Kaisa's true nature isn't much different from what she presents to the world, aside from all the worries and fears.

Can Galadriel see their memories? Yeah! Just let me know and I'll tell you about it. Though there is a lot of things that Galadriel would probably oppose to in there so--watch out.

Can Galadriel read their desires? What they long for most? Yes. Most of his desires center around freedom and acceptance and equality for all, but also mixed in there sometimes is a desire to just disappear with Nate and be gone.

Can Galadriel read their fears and sorrows? Yes. He fears the Blight ending Nate's life, he fears losing more people that he cares about, he fears mages losing what freedoms they've gained, he fears what shape the future might take.

Can Galadriel sense the nature of their heart? Yes. Anders cares a great deal about far too many things so compassion is probably the overriding thing there but he absolutely hates the Templar order/symbols, Chantry symbols, and Seeker order/symbols and what they've done to his people. There's fear there too.

Can Galadriel see their memories? Yes, but poke me first for what details she'd see.

Has your character been corrupted either physically or spiritually? He's a grey warden, alas.

 Are they still corrupted? Yep.

If your character is a spirit/golem/etc, and it is not otherwise obvious, can she sense it? He's not possessed anymore, but Mercy now lingers near him as she's the spirit he works with.

Would you prefer her not to sense it? If she's able to sense a spirit near a spirit healer, then she can totally sense Mercy.

Do you want their powers and Galadriel's abilities to have a conflict somewhere? Let's play it by ear? I don't see that they would conflict, but we can leave the door open in case there's an interesting way to have it happen down the road.

Anything else? I thought I replied to this last time around, whoops.

Can Galadriel read their active thoughts? Yes, all for it. She's not exactly great at always articulating her thoughts so it could be interesting for Galadriel to read the undercurrents.

Can Galadriel read their desires? What they long for most? Yeah! Honestly what Herian longs for most is peace/a world that is kind to all people. Also just like, love/home/acceptance.

Can Galadriel read their fears and sorrows? Yes. Related to the above, she worries about power being entirely in the hands of any one group, and if that will really make a kind, just world that protects people who are vulnerable and doesn't simply skew the power in another direction that makes others suffer instead. She also worries about what selfish acts people can do, and often interrogates herself and her motivations, and fears failing to do her duty. In terms of her sorrows, a lot of loss - her parents, an ex, the White Spire, I can get into more details on different elements of this if you like.

Can Galadriel sense the nature of their heart? Yes. I think she has a good heart, but certainly a heavy one. Herian can come across cold or dispassionate externally, but she feels a great deal (even as she tries to repress and keep all the feelings internal) and is a deeply caring person. There's a lot of rage, there's a lot of love, and she has to exercise a lot of control to keep all those passions in line. Honour/kindness/love/rage/pride are all features.
(Idk if the people she cares for the most would be much of a consideration but she's hideously enamoured with Cosima, and Saoirse and Sabine are also incredibly important to her, though the latter is not currently in game.)

Can Galadriel see their memories? SURE just lmk if any are of interest an I can give you Deets. Particular points of interest could be related to her history with the Dalish and her mage troubles.

Has your character been corrupted either physically or spiritually? No! However Herian may have to wrestle with rage and pride demons at some point as a consequence of repressing her emotions for so long and not coping, so I can keep you posted on that. Idk if that counts but ???

 Are they still corrupted? n

If your character is a spirit/golem/etc, and it is not otherwise obvious, can she sense it?

Would you prefer her not to sense it?

Do you want their powers and Galadriel's abilities to have a conflict somewhere?

Anything else? I may need to update this later ayyy

Can Galadriel sense the nature of their heart? he's a good boy who does his best

Can Galadriel read their active thoughts? Yep, feel free to pluck anything from small text and assume she knows it

Can Galadriel read their desires? What they long for most? Yep! Again, anything from small text, and if you'd like to know more, hit me up on plurk and I can give you a bunch. The biggest thing is wanting to see his people in a safe, happy and prosperous land, heading towards restoring the civilizations they used to have, even if it's only one really pretty city. He wants to see children running around happy and art being made and elders telling stories and singing songs, and peace, but it's a desire he only wants to see for others. Iorveth does not believe he's capable of being part of that, or that he really should be. He's very much a protector and an avenger, and his entire life has been war, so he doesn't really fit that.

Can Galadriel read their fears and sorrows? Yep yep. Iorveth has been tortured, several times, he's seen a lot of death, he's been basically non-stop at some kind of war for a century, there's a lot of anger and a lot of sorrow in him. He's missing one eye - it was done while being tortured, specifically with the intention to rob him of the natural beauty that elves possess. It was carved out with a fire that was heated in a fire, so it's pretty gross looking and it goes with the long scar on that side of his face. Also, other torture stuff, it's a bad time. Beyond that, elves in his world were decimated by human colonization, have been reduced to the point that they're nearing extinction, treated a lot like Thedas elves now, but there aren't nearly so many of them left. Iorveth is leader of a unit of Scoia'tael - elite elven commando freedom fighters that have gone through a looooot of hell trying to help their people survive better, and find a safe place for them to be able to rebuild without constant threat of being murdered by passing drunk humans.

Can Galadriel sense the nature of their heart? Yep! He is, mostly, a good person. He does some bad things, but for good reasons. He's definitely a racist, and he's pretty violent, but the kind of anger he has in him is like blinding levels of intense. But, it comes from a place of sorrow first, and secondly, pride and hope for his people to survive on.

Can Galadriel see their memories? Go for it! If there were done by anyone besides lmfao a 15,000 year old super elf, he'd probably be offended, but with Galadriel, nah girl, you do your thing. For specific memories and bits, let me know if you want me to give you some good stuff and I can tell you fun stories or something idk.
